Checked by the RivalEye AI Council
A fixed set of rules awards the points. The texts in the PDF – summary, assessments and your most important actions – are written by an author model exclusively from our measured data. A reviewer model checks every statement against that data; if there are objections, an arbiter model decides. Every action states whether the Council agreed.
If the AI Council’s daily quota has been reached or a provider is not reachable at the moment, you receive the rule-based report – the PDF then says so. Texts with AI content are labeled in accordance with Art. 50 of the EU AI Act.
The structure – around 15 pages
- 1Cover – total points and ranking, with the AI Council note
- 2At a glance – the AI Council’s conclusion, ranking list, what matters most for you and points per category
- 3Strengths and gaps per category – as a radar chart: you, the strongest competitor and the average
- 4All 33 checks compared – as a color table, side by side
- 5AI readiness in detail – which AI bots are blocked, on your site and on the others
- 6Google & technology in detail – how Google might show your homepage, plus sitemap and response times in a chart
- 7Trust & customer acquisition – plus what your competitors show
- 8Your 5 most important actions – step by step, with an overview by impact and effort; each one states whether the AI Council agreed
- 9Methodology – how we measure and calculate
- 10Limits & next step – what the check does not see and, at the end, briefly what the RivalEye subscription watches in addition
Frankly: the report ends with brief information about the RivalEye subscription. The check itself is free and commits you to nothing.
What this check does differently
Many free website checks show an abstract grade or a long list of errors. We focus on the question that really interests you: where do you stand compared with your competition – and what do you do next?
| What you get | Typical website checks | RivalEye Competitor Check |
|---|---|---|
| Comparison with real competitors | Mostly only your own site | You against up to 3 competitors, with a ranking |
| AI bots checked | Rarely – and then without a comparison with competitors | The crawlers of the major AI assistants: blocked or allowed? |
| Who checks the recommendations | Fixed text modules or a single AI | The AI Council: AI models from different providers as a team – one writes, at least one other checks against the measured data |
| What you end up with | Long error lists or a grade | Top 5 actions, sorted by impact and effort |
| How the points come about | Often not traceable | Open points table – see the methodology |
| Account or registration | Often required, for example for the PDF export | No account, no newsletter |
| For passing on | A view in the browser | A PDF for your team, your agency or your web designer |

What the check cannot do
A free check is a snapshot. So that you can put it in perspective, here is an open account of where its limits lie.
- No rankings, no trafficWe do not see which position you hold on Google or how many visitors you have.
- Only the homepageWe read the homepage plus robots.txt, sitemap and llms.txt – no subpages.
- No JavaScript contentWe do not see what is only loaded later by JavaScript. Some site-builder pages score lower as a result.
- A single measurementWe measure the response time once from our server. That is no substitute for a load-time test from your customers’ point of view.
- No legal reviewFor the legal notice and the privacy policy we only check whether a link is there. Please have the content itself reviewed legally.
- No guarantee of AI recommendationsOpen doors for AI bots increase the chance of being cited as a source – nothing more. Whether AI assistants really name you is measured by the subscription with fixed question sets.
- No bypassing of blocksIf a website blocks automated requests or blocks us via robots.txt, we show it as “not readable”.
- Points without AI, texts with AIA fixed set of rules awards the points – traceable, but it does not understand content. The AI Council writes only from our measured data; it does not visit websites itself and can be wrong. That is why a second model checks every statement.
How we award the points
33 checks, 100 points, five categories. Met earns full points, partly met earns partial points, not met earns 0. What does not apply (for example alt texts when there are no images) counts in full.
| Category | Points | Checks (points) |
|---|---|---|

- Ranking: by total points. In a tie, websites share the rank. Websites that cannot be read get no rank.
- Order of the actions: possible gain in points, weighted by how many of your competitors already meet the check, divided by the effort. Critical items (for example “not indexable”) always come first.
- Response time: time to the first byte of the homepage, measured once from our server.
- AI Council: writes texts only – summary, assessments and actions. Points, measured values, ranking and effort remain rule-based. Only measured data of the websites goes to the AI providers, no email and no IP addresses.
- Request: we identify ourselves as “RivalEye-Check”, respect robots.txt and read only publicly accessible files. Details on the page Our request.
Frequently asked questions about the Competitor Check
Is the check really free?
Yes. The check costs nothing, you do not need an account and no subscription starts. It is not a trial of the RivalEye subscription either, but a separate, automatic offer for businesses. At the end of the report there is brief information about the subscription – clearly recognizable as such.
How long does the check take?
The preview is usually ready after 10–20 seconds. If a lot of checks are running, you wait briefly in the queue – you see your place on the page. After your confirmation, the PDF report usually arrives after a few minutes, rarely after more than 10 minutes, because the AI Council writes and checks the texts.
What happens to my data?
We store your entries and the result in order to send you the report. Unconfirmed checks become invalid after 48 hours, confirmed ones after 30 days; after that we delete them during the next automatic cleanup. We store your IP address only as a pseudonymized short value to protect against abuse. If you arrive via an ad or a campaign link, we also store the campaign name from the address bar – without cookies. We count page views without cookies and without third-party services. For the AI Council, only measured data of the websites goes to the providers of the AI models (named in the privacy policy), never your email or IP address. After your confirmation we receive a copy of your report and your email address so that we can answer questions about it. No disclosure to third parties, no newsletter. Details are in the privacy policy.
Why do I have to confirm my email address?
So that nobody can send reports to other people’s addresses. The PDF report only goes to an address whose owner has clicked the link. The confirmation link is valid for 48 hours.
Am I allowed to have my competitors’ websites checked?
The check reads only publicly accessible files – the homepage, robots.txt, sitemap and llms.txt – just like a visitor with a browser. We respect robots.txt, do not bypass any blocks, openly identify our request as “RivalEye-Check” and do not copy any texts into the report. This is not legal advice.
What is the difference from the RivalEye subscription?
The check is a one-time, automatic snapshot of your homepage based on fixed rules; the AI Council writes your report from it. The subscription watches your competitors continuously: new prices, offers, pages and reviews as well as your visibility on Google and in AI answers. The reports arrive monthly, weekly or daily, depending on the subscription; they are created with AI support and checked by the AI Council – in the daily subscriptions the AI Council works once a week, not daily.
Why could a website not be read?
The most common reasons: a firewall or protection service blocks automated requests, the robots.txt blocks our request, the server returns an error when the robots.txt is requested (in which case, out of caution, we read nothing), it responds too slowly (more than 7 seconds) or the address is wrong. We do not bypass any blocks. If your own website is affected, check the address or allow our request.
What does the AI Council do in my report?
Three AI models from different providers work as one team here: one writes the summary, the assessments and your most important actions – only from the measured data of the check. At least one reviewer model checks every statement against this measured data and may object; on important objections an arbiter model from the same team decides. Only then does the recommendation stand – and with every action you see whether the Council agreed. The AI Council does not change the points or the ranking. If its daily quota has been reached, you receive the rule-based report; the PDF then says so.
How often can I run the check?
Up to three times a day per email address. A new check makes sense after you have carried out actions – then you see what has improved.

The snapshot becomes an early-warning system.
The check shows where things stand today. The RivalEye subscription watches your competitors continuously – prices, offers, reviews, Google and AI visibility – and tells you what to do.
